Expert insights - RTTR
Mobil Delvac 1™ saves RTTR over AUD $16,600 per 1 million km.
To ensure improved performance and overall operating cost reduction with component longevity.
Initially, the Detroit Series 60 engine was lubricated with a major competitor’s semi-synthetic SAE 15W-40 engine oil. RTTR (Road Transport & Training Resources Pty Ltd) management found that the downtime accrued with continual servicing with this oil contributed to the overall operating cost of running the unit – this was unacceptable.
Mobil Delvac 1 SAE 5W-40 fully synthetic engine oil replaced the competitor's engine oil and a 1 million kilometre trial was completed to determine operational and maintenance cost savings.
The enhanced service life of Mobil Delvac 1 resulted in an extension of Oil Drain Interval from 40,000 km to 100,000 km – hence, a direct reduction in unit downtime and service roster and a reduction in spares inventory held. Performance gains included better cold weather starting, more rapid oil pressure rise when cold and better oil pressure when hot.
Using Mobil Delvac 1, cost savings of AUD $16,600 were realised from the following:
- No valve train adjustments required with use of Delvac 1.
- Reduction of component wear rates.
- Reduction in fuel usage.
- Reduction in servicing downtime.
